入手のいきさつ
IC-3Nが出たてのころ、高校生だった私は好奇心でそれを買ったはいいものの、こんなものはご近所さんと一緒に魚釣りにでも行かない限り使い途は無いもんだと気付いて後悔していたころ、知り合いの方が大阪のハムフェス（？）の抽選でこのFRGが当選したとの報を聞き、IC-3Nと交換してもらった。 短波ラジオがあるからどうというものでも無いが、２８MHzがオープンしていないときに海外ラジオを聴くのも良かろう、少なくともIC-3Nよりかは使い途があると思って交換をお願いした。 相手の方は「いいの？」と言っていたが、全く躊躇は無かったのを覚えている。

Introduction
I got this unit back in early 1980s in exchange for ICOM IC-3N, that I had purchased just out of curiosity and then immediately found it utterly useless unless I have some friends around to go to fishing or something with.  Although I had no particular interest in shortwave radios designed for broadcasting reception I reckoned that it's still somewhat of use than the IC-3N, thinking it was not a bad idea to relax with overseas broadcasts when 28MHz is quiet. 

二十余年の時を経て
サイクル21が終わり、自然とQRTしたと時を同じくしてこのFRGも実家の物置へと収まり、二十余年を経て再び引っ張り出してみたのが、これ。 まあ、当然、きちゃない。 致命的な外傷がないのが幸い。 掃除すればそこそこきれいにはなるだろう。

機能面では、まあ、受信はするものの、

• メインダイヤルランプ切れ （二個使い中両方とも）。
• 全般的にガリ。 プリセレもガリ。 VFOもガリ。
• VFO重い。 特に高いほうのバンドエッジに近づくときはゴリゴリした動き。
• MHzのLockが非常にクリチカル。 特に1MHzはLockランプが消えない。
• その他モロモロ

と、かなりくたびれている。 まあ、どれも故障というより経年変化で、大した不具合でも無いので、メンテをして再調整すればまた元気になるだろう。

After twenty some years past..
In the mid 1980s the solar cycle 21 faded away, which means high freq bands esp 28MHz was now dead. So did my ham radio interest. The FRG was now sent to the shed, had to wait almost a quarter century to be powered up again. The photo above is the FRG salvaged last week from the shed, and apart from the filthy cosmetic condition, although it powers up and kind of working,  demonstrates some functional worn-outs like :-

• Main dial bulbs burnt-outs
• Mechanical contacts worn-outs everywhere, incl preselector and VFO VCs.
• Stiff VFO tuning feel, especially when reaching to higher band edge even cranked movement.
• [MHz] tuning very critical to lock, esp on 1MHz (un)lock warning indicator never turns off. 
• etc, etc

Good news is that these are rather time related deteriorations than troubles so it should easily be fixed after applying some maintenance and alignments.
